Marocchino

Italy

The typical Italian gourmet espresso drink

Combine the flavour of coffee, milk and cocoa. The result is a taste esplosion, which is also a delightful architecture of layers, perfect for kick-starting the day.

Ingredients

  1. 1 espresso
  2. 20-30 ml frothed milk
  3. Cocoa

Method

Make an espresso coffee and froth the milk. Sprinkle the espresso with cocoa and add the frothed milk. Sprinkle on the milk too, as decoration.

Service

Serve in a small glass or glass cup of around 60 ml.

Curiosity

The marocchino coffee has nothing to do with Morocco. It was invented in Alessandria in the Piedmont region, inspired by the Cavour bicerin, a traditional drink of Turin. So why marocchino? Because of its colour, which reminded people of the highly-prized "Marocchino" leather with a warm colour.
